Rochester's pottery scene runs through the South Wedge, Park Avenue, the East End, and out into Brighton and Pittsford. Prices are friendly: drop-in classes from $40, six-week courses from $225-325. The community is craft-serious thanks to RIT and the broader photographic-and-craft tradition that built the city, with several studios offering rigorous multi-level wheel curricula. Memberships with kiln access are widely available. Hand-building and wheel throwing are both well-covered; member shelves are common but waitlisted at the popular South Wedge studios. Date-night and drop-in classes are common on Park Avenue and in the East End. Kids programs run year-round at the community art centers. For longer study, the South Wedge and East End studios have the deepest multi-level progression and best access to the broader Rochester craft community.
