About ClayDirectory

ClayDirectory is a free, hand-curated directory of pottery studios and ceramics classes across 80+ US cities. It exists because the information already lives on the internet, but it's scattered across Google Maps, studio websites, Eventbrite listings, and Instagram posts. We pull it together, filter it, and put the practical details (prices, hours, class types, beginner-friendliness) front and centre.

What we cover

• 1,600+ pottery studios across the United States.
• Filters for wheel throwing, hand building, kids classes, date nights, drop-in sessions, studio memberships, kiln access, and more.
• City-by-city pages with hand-written context: which neighbourhoods have which studios, typical price ranges, where the craft-serious scene lives.
• In-depth pottery guides on what to expect in your first class, what a studio membership actually includes, and which wheels are worth buying for a home setup.

Where the data comes from

Studio listings start from Google Places (the official Maps data feed) and are enriched by lightweight scraping of each studio's own website to detect what they actually offer. Filter flags are set from keyword matches against studio websites; descriptions are extracted from each studio's own copy.

We refresh the data monthly. Studio owners can correct anything via the contact form.

What we do not do

• We are not affiliated with any studio. We don't take a cut of class bookings.
• Listings are free. There is no "basic" vs "premium" tier for showing up.
• We don't accept paid placements that distort search results. Featured listings (if and when we offer them) will be clearly labelled.
• We don't sell studio data. Email addresses you submit through the contact form are used only to reply to you.

How we make money

Affiliate links in our pottery wheel comparison guide (we earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you). We may add display advertising later. Anything that does ship will be clearly marked. Neither will ever affect which studios show up first in our directory.
