Cleveland's pottery scene clusters in the Detroit-Shoreway, Tremont, Ohio City, and University Circle neighborhoods, with additional studios in Lakewood and Cleveland Heights. Prices are unusually friendly given the level of teaching available: drop-in classes from $35, six-week courses from $200-300. The community is craft-serious thanks to the Cleveland Institute of Art ceramics program and the broader Rust Belt studio-craft tradition. Several studios are run by working potters who teach rigorous wheel curricula at prices that would be twice as high on the coasts. Memberships with kiln access and member shelves are widely available and affordable. Kids programs run year-round at the community art centers.
