Columbus's pottery scene runs through the Short North, Italian Village, Clintonville, and German Village, with additional studios in Grandview Heights and Worthington. Prices are friendly: drop-in classes from $45, six-week courses from $250-375. The community is craft-serious thanks to the Ohio State and Columbus College of Art and Design ceramics programs, with several studios offering multi-level wheel curricula and visiting-artist workshops. Memberships with kiln access are widely available. Hand-building drops in easily; wheel throwing usually requires a short intro session. Date-night and drop-in classes are common in the Short North and Italian Village. Kids programs run year-round at the larger community art centers. For longer study, the Short North and Clintonville studios have the deepest multi-level progression.
