Ithaca's pottery scene is small but craft-serious, anchored by the Cornell University ceramics program and the broader Finger Lakes craft tradition. Studios cluster downtown, in Fall Creek, and out near the Cornell campus. Prices are mid-market for a university town: drop-in classes from $45, six-week courses from $250-375. Several studios are run by Cornell graduates teaching rigorous multi-level wheel curricula alongside the standard beginner programming. Memberships with kiln access are available but limited; member shelves are waitlisted. Hand-building drops in easily; wheel throwing usually requires a short intro session. Date-night and drop-in classes are common downtown. Kids programs run year-round at the community art centers. For longer study, the downtown and Fall Creek studios offer the deepest curricula and access to the broader Cornell ceramics community.
