Madison's pottery scene is concentrated in the East Side, the Atwood neighborhood, and downtown near the Capitol, with additional studios in Middleton and Monona. Prices are friendly: drop-in classes from $45, six-week courses from $250-375. The community is craft-serious thanks to the University of Wisconsin ceramics program and the broader Midwest studio-craft tradition, with several studios offering rigorous wheel curricula and visiting-artist workshops. Memberships with kiln access are widely available and affordable. Date-night and drop-in classes are common, especially on the East Side. Kids programs run year-round, with strong summer camps. For longer study, the East Side and Atwood studios have the deepest multi-level wheel programs; for a casual evening, the downtown studios are walkable from the Capitol Square restaurants.
