San Francisco's pottery scene is dense and craft-serious, with studios spread across the Mission, SoMa, the Bayview-Hunters Point arts district, Potrero Hill, and the Richmond. Prices are the highest in the country: intro classes from $70, six-week courses from $425-650. Several studios are run by working potters with strong reputations in the broader West Coast ceramics community, which makes this one of the better cities for progressing beyond intro. Wheel throwing, hand-building, and kiln-share memberships are all widely available; member shelves carry long waitlists. Date-night and drop-in classes are easy to find in the Mission and SoMa. Kids and family programs are less common than in suburban East Bay studios but exist on the Peninsula side. For serious study, the Bayview and Potrero studios have the deepest curricula.
