Pottery studios in Memphis, Tennessee
Memphis's pottery scene is concentrated in Midtown, Cooper-Young, Crosstown, and Downtown, with additional studios out in Germantown and Collierville. Prices are unusually friendly: drop-in classes from $35, six-week courses from $200-300. The community is craft-serious thanks to the University of Memphis and Rhodes College ceramics programs, with several studios offering rigorous wheel curricula at prices that would be twice as high on the coasts. Memberships with kiln access are widely available and affordable. Hand-building drops in easily; wheel throwing usually requires the intro class first. Date-night and drop-in classes are common in Cooper-Young and Crosstown. Kids programs run year-round at the community art centers. For serious students, Memphis offers exceptional value with deep curricula at low prices.
