Portland's pottery scene is small but craft-serious, concentrated in the Old Port, the West End, East Bayside, and out in South Portland. Prices are mid-market: drop-in classes from $50, six-week courses from $275-425. The community draws on the broader Maine craft tradition, with several studios run by working potters connected to the Maine College of Art and the larger Maine ceramics network. Memberships with kiln access are widely available but waitlisted at the popular Old Port and East Bayside studios. Hand-building and wheel throwing are both well-covered; several studios offer multi-level wheel programs that progress past intro. Date-night and drop-in classes are common in the Old Port. Kids programs run year-round at the community art centers. For longer study, the East Bayside and West End studios have the deepest curricula.
