Boston's pottery scene is split between city studios (Allston, Jamaica Plain, South End, Cambridge) and the strong studio-craft tradition in nearby Somerville and Watertown. Prices skew mid-to-high: drop-in classes from $60, six-week courses from $325-450. Several studios are run by working potters with MFA backgrounds, so the teaching here is unusually rigorous for hobbyists who want to progress. Wheel throwing and hand-building tracks are both deep; kiln-share programs and member shelves are common. Date-night and one-off workshops are easy to find, especially in Allston and the South End. Kids programs run year-round, with summer camps in Cambridge and Somerville. For serious students, the Somerville and Watertown studios have the deepest curricula and longest-running memberships.
