Washington DC's pottery scene runs through the District (Brookland, Petworth, Eckington, Capitol Hill) and out into nearby Virginia and Maryland. Studios here lean craft-serious, with several anchored by long-running non-profit arts centers that run rigorous multi-level wheel curricula. The Brookland arts cluster around the Monroe Street Market is the densest single area. For serious study, the older non-profit studios offer the deepest progression; for a casual evening, the Petworth and Capitol Hill studios are easy walks from dinner.
