Honolulu's pottery scene is concentrated in Kakaako, Chinatown, Kaimuki, and out in Kailua and Kapahulu. Prices are mid-to-high reflecting Hawaii cost realities: drop-in classes from $55, six-week courses from $325-475. The community draws on the broader Hawaiian craft tradition and the University of Hawaii Manoa ceramics program, with several studios offering multi-level wheel curricula. Memberships with kiln access are widely available but waitlisted at the popular Kakaako and Chinatown studios. Hand-building drops in easily; wheel throwing usually requires the intro class first. Date-night and drop-in classes are common in Kakaako and Chinatown. Kids programs run year-round at the community art centers. For longer study, the Kakaako and Manoa studios offer the deepest multi-level progression and connection to the broader Pacific ceramics community.
